Between 2012 and 2021, I didn’t write a diary. I was scattered across the internet, on social media, on Twitter and Tumblr, and had no time for a diary. That was long dead. I’d grown out of that nonsense, apparently. Looking back now, the 2010s are my wilderness years – the in between era; the fuzzy period where memories are all hazy and where I was never quite sure who I was. I spent a lot of my 20s looking for clarity, trying new styles, bobbing in and out of friend groups, wondering what the fuck was going on.
I still had a diary at the dawn of the 2010s, but everything from 2010, 2011 and 2012 is lost to time – even the diary entry titles. In those first few years, I learned to drive, quit my first job, started university, moved to Liverpool, lost my virginity, lived with strangers, and grew up in an increasingly confusing world.
This is my Wilderness Years diary. This diary is messy and fuzzy and whatever springs to mind, a side-project to my mainline current diary.
